The question of
learning foreign languages is very important today. Foreign
languages are required especially at the present time when
progress in science and technology has led to an explosion of
knowledge and has contributed to an overflow of information. The
total knowledge of humanity is known to double every seven
years. Foreign languages are needed as the main and the most
efficient means of information exchange between the people of
our planet.
Today English is the language of the world. It is the language
of science and technology, trade and cultural relations,
commerce and business. It is the universal language of
international aviation, shipping and sports. It is also the
major language of diplomacy.
Hundreds and hundreds of books, magazines and newspapers are
printed in English and read all over the world. Seventy-five per
cent of the world's mail and sixty per cent of the world
telephone calls are in English. Half of the world's scientific
literature is written in English. English is spoken by more than
350 million people. Geographically, it is the most widespread
language on earth, second only to Chinese in the number of
people who speak it.
It is the official language of the United Kingdom of Great
Britain and Northern Ireland, of the United States of America,
of Australia and New Zealand. English is used as one of the
official languages in Canada, the Republic of South Africa and
the Irish Republic. It is also spoken as a second language in
many parts of India and Africa. The number of second-language
speakers may soon exceed the number of native speakers. Besides,
millions of people study English as a foreign language. In our
country English is very popular. It is studied at schools and
even at nursery schools, colleges and universities.
So far, there is no universal or ideal method of learning
languages. Everybody has his\her own way. Sometimes it is boring
to study grammar or to learn new words. But it is well known
that reading books in the original, listening to the BBC news,
communicating with English-speaking people will help a lot. When
learning a foreign language you learn the culture and history of
the native speakers. One must work hard to learn any foreign
language.

Проблема изучения иностранных языков
сегодня очень важна. Иностранные языки требуются в обществе,
особенно теперь, когда научный и технологический прогресс привел
к прорыву в знаниях и способствовал избытку информации.
Известно, что общие знания всего человечества удваиваются каждые
семь лет. Иностранные языки необходимы как главное и самое
эффективное средство обмена информацией между людьми нашей
планеты.
Сегодня английский является языком всего мира. Это язык науки и
технологии, торговли и культурных связей, коммерции и бизнеса.
Это единый язык международной авиации, судоходства и спорта. Это
также основной язык дипломатии.
На английском языке печатаются сотни и сотни книг, журналов и
газет, которые читают во всем мире. На английском пишется 75%
всех почтовых отправлений и делается 60% всех телефонных звонков
в мире. Половина всей научной литературы в мире написана
по-английски. На английском говорят более 350 миллионов человек.
Это самый географически распространенный язык в мире, а по
количеству говорящих на нем людей он уступает только китайскому.
Это государственный язык Соединенного Королевства Великобритании
и Северной Ирландии, Соединенных Штатов Америки, Австралии и
Новой Зеландии. Английский является одним из государственных
языков в Канаде, Южно-Африканской Республике и Ирландской
Республике. На английском как на втором языке также говорят во
многих местах в Индии и в Африке. Число тех, для кого английский
— это второй язык, может скоро превысить число тех, для кого это
родной язык. Кроме того, миллионы людей изучают английский как
иностранный язык. В нашей стране английский очень популярен: его
изучают в школах и даже в детских садах, в институтах и
университетах.
Пока что не существует универсального или идеального метода
изучения языков. Каждый делает это по-своему. Иногда Если вы
тесно связаны с зарубежными странами, особенно по работе, вам
следует хорошо владеть языком. Это значит, что ваше произношение
должно соответствовать стандарту, вы должны говорить бегло и без
ошибок. И вам, бывает скучно изучать грамматику или запоминать
новые слова. Но всем хорошо известно, что вам очень поможет,
если вы будете читать книги в оригинале, слушать новости
Би-Би-Си, общаться с носителями английского языка. Изучая
иностранный язык, вы изучаете культуру и историю носителей этого
языка. Чтобы выучить любой иностранный язык, надо усердно
трудиться.
